- Stolen Goods. Unfortunately, stolen goods are often sold at car boots. I've been notified by a carbooter that this week this week a Stihl MS 260 chain saw and Alpina Chain saw were stolen. Kent police can be contacted on 01732 379 170 crime reference BY/8342/09.
- BEWARE when searching the internet. Many links apparently to sites about car boots in Google are bogus. They usually include random letters and numbers in the address eg im2zd9 plus several hyphenated words taken from a genuine website and are not .com or .co.uk addresses (see address in green at bottom of Google listing / in status bar). They lead to sites which download viruses, trojans and other types of malware. carbootsRus does not try to download any malware. All links to external sites in it have been tested and were ok when tested.

She said: ‘Where a property is used as a car boot sale site its rateable value for the 2010 revaluation should reflect any rental enhancement attributable to that use.’
Her officials said this had always been the case when assessing rates and claimed most business would see their bills reduce next year.
But Tory Shadow Secretary for Local Government Caroline Spelman said that since the number of sales had soared, many more people would be affected, adding: ‘In the depths of a recession, car boot sales are more important than ever. They also help the environment by reducing the amount of unwanted items thrown into landfill.’
A spokesman for Ms Follett said last night: ‘The five-yearly revaluations make sure each business pays its fair contribution and no more.’
VOA sources said charity events would be unaffected. | | Plan your carboot: 5-day Met Office forecast for ☞... | |

Please tell car boot organisers about this site, so we can increase the coverage. And, please keep on e-mailing me with details so that I can include them / contact the organisers.Markets are being threatened with closure. Local Authorities are quoting 600 year old Royal Charters which 'give them authority to ban markets within a day's donkey ride of another.' None actually seem able to produce copies of these charters in today's English. They claim this distance is equivalent to about 6.25 miles and are measuring as the crow flies. In one case Tyneside Council has to decide whether to allow a market to be set up within a donkey's ride of the market in South Shields. The distance as the donkey rides is nearer 14 miles. Anecdotal evidence is more markets are better for the areas. What do you think? Contribute to a discussion on the MESSAGE BOARD. | - Warning XP Service Pack 3 is bad for your health!!

- Increase Numbers of Car Boot Days
At the moment only 14 car boot sales a year can be held on any field in Green Belt land. The organisers of "Warrington's Favourite Car Boot" are petitioning to allow them for 28 days. They state "We go on about recycling, please tell me what is more efficient than recycling your unwanted items than burying that in land fill sites. A good day out for people and if run properly, a safe and clean way of raising extra cash and emptying your garage." To support their petition, click here - New Year's Resolution: please resolve to check in your local paper and email me updated information about one car boot every week. Please don't forget to say which county / area it's in.

- Transfer tapes to MP3 free (Updated Information).
My birthday present, back in August, was an MP3 player from Amazon. It came with trial software letting me rip all my tapes to computer in WAV but only encode 20 to MP3. I've exhausted the 20 so I searched for a freebie and found a fully functional free one at Audacity. (Most are just trials or only copy 75% of your file!). At this rate, I'll need to get myself a bigger MP3 player! MadSally has full details of how to transfer it all (again free!). To transfer you need a tape player, preferably mains, with a headphone socket (from a car boot sale) and a line-in on the computer + a 3.5mm stereo jack-to-jack lead. Good luck. I've also found NCH Software which has an even better piece of software which can convert your vinyls and tapes directly to mp3!! The quality of recording is excellent. - Buying a new computer?
I've just transferred all my programs and files from my old one in 20 minutes using PCmover on my home network. I didn't have to find all those old cds to reinstall everything! 'PCmover is the easiest way to move all your programs, files, and settings to a new PC.'. I don't recommend using the 'Easy Transfer' cable for Vista. The best options are either to set-up a peer2peer network using a cross-over cable or use the PCmover USB2 cable, if you have USB2 on your old machine. - Windows pirates get IE7 amnesty.
- Make Premium Rate calls for free.
Save up to 40p / minute. Where companies list only 0870, 0871, 0844 and 0845 numbers which are not free, even on your mobile with its 'free' minutes SAYNOTO0870.com lists alternative landline or freephone numbers. It's free to use. - Telephone queues
- Don't tear your hair out being held in a telephone queue. Next time an electronic voice tells you to press 5 so that you can press 7 and then press 2 - don't! Just don't press anything. Wait it out. Apparently, 80% of the time you'll actually get through to a person or be put on call back, which means... less waiting!

What are RSS Feeds? RSS feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content. You can get the latest headlines and stories in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.
How do I start using feeds? In general, the first thing you need is something called a feed reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. IE 7.0 has a good feed reader built in, otherwise try Feedreader | Parking - several organisers have been warned by the police that their car boot may be in jeopardy if customers park on the verges outside or the drivers may be ticketted for obstruction. So, please park inside the grounds. |
